Hi everyone!

I'm auditioning for the role of Mother's Younger Brother in Ragtime soon, and am unsure of a suitable audition song for the role.  I have some ideas, but I need some outside consultation!  Here they are:

Winter's on the Wing from "The Secret Garden"

I Can See It from "The Fantasticks"

Being Alive from "Company"

Younger than Springtime from "South Pacific"

Yesterday I Loved You from "Once Upon a Mattress"

Any imput you all have would be greatly appreciated!  I can never seem to pick a song that reflects the character I am going up for!  Thanks!

well - they're all tenor pieces, which is good.

You have to decide what you want to impart.

"I Can See It" (Matt's lyrics) and "Younger Than Springtime" are
both full of youthful enthusiasm and optimism.

"Being Alive" is a cynical song sung by an emotionally needy
man...as are ElGallo's lyrics in "I Can See It"

"Yesterday I Love You" is also a youthful, ebullient song - and
more light-hearted and less serious than "Younger Than
Springtime" ... also, not as vocally demanding.

"Winter's on the Wing" is much more contemporary - and more
in keeping with the style and vocal demands of "Ragtime" - not
that it sounds the same, but it has that same contemporary
coloring.

They're all good songs ... they also all impart very different
information and emotion.

Good luck!
