Is there a way to conduct an online search of theaters nationwide who are doing a particular show? I have not been able to find the kind of comprehensive data-base I'm looking for, although american theaterweb was not bad. Thanks in advance!

Try the American Community Theatre Association. http://www.aact.org/index.htm

You may have to become a member to access their database? I don?t have no need - so never tried!
