Hey- I'm directing a community theater production of Oedipus Rex.  Because we like things to be bloody, we want Oedipus to blind himself onstage if possible.  My main concern is, of course, having fake blood near the eyes.  Has anyone done this or a similar blinding scene (e.g., in King Lear or something) who knows a recipe for a very non-toxic fake blood that we could use?  Also, it would be cool if we could have something that looks like an "eye" that he could let drop out of his hand on stage.  Any ideas for that?

Chocolate blood should be safe but be careful with the colouring becuase it stains.

This company sells blood that is especially designed for use in and around the eyes:
