This is going to be a strange question, but, years ago I saw a play that was a hilarious, spoof murder mystery. I dont remember the title, author, or even the name of the theater where I saw it! But, I loved the show and was hoping, by a long shot that someone would know of the show....it is about a murder novelist who goes to a haunted mansion retreat to write her mystery. Several other people arrive including her ex husband and..reporters? if I am remembering correctly. Everyone gets killed off by the maid and butler. Well, as vague as that is, does anyone know of a show like this? Thank you!

Was it a straight show or a musical? If it was a musical it sounds vaguely like "Somethings A foot." The spoof on the Agatha Christie murder mysteries.

Here are three that come to mind - they are all plays about doing a murder mystery play (a play within a play) :

The Haunted Through Lounge and recessed Dining Nook at Farnsdale Castle by McGillvray and Zerlin : Very British

Drop Dead By Milmore and Van Zandt

Accomplice by Rupert Holmes

The play you described sounds vaguely like "Out of Sight, Out of Murder" by Fred Carmichael.  If not, I'm sure you can browse the Samuel French catalogue under his name.  Mr. Carmichael is one of the most prolific playwrights of murder comedies, spoofs & farces.
