I am the secretary for a small town group, The Suwannee Valley Players. Last year we were able to purchase a building thru a state historic grant and that has been wonderfull. Now we are trying to increase our membership. We currently have 15 active members. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this? We would appreciate any help that you could give us.

Our group uses several methods. We have an insert page in our program with an invitation to join. We also have a "remarks" book in our lobby for people to add remarks and leave their name and address for further contact. We also do a lot of peer pressure with friends/coworkers and relatives to join. We ask repeat performers if they want to become members. One plan which we are going to try this year is a specific direct mail to "regulars". Not finalized yet, but the concept is to mail out 300 letters costing 40 cents each ($120 total cost) with an anticipated return of 200 new members @ $100 per person ($2000 cash influx). New people, more cash. I'll post our final plan and the results in the spring of 2000.
