Hi Preston!

That seems to be a very broad question, but I have been acting in the theater now for three year, and I'll try to give you a few suggestions. It really depends on the size of the community you are in, and the amount of community and commercial theaters that are present. If you are wondering about big fame movie star acting, I wont be able to help much but by saying the theater is a good place to start. Harrison Ford started out acting in dramatic theater, and when he got his first big deal it was while he was doing carpentry work, not acting. I have been involved in a community theater as I said for the last 3 years, and I have learned an increadible amount about acting just by being involved with other actors. Seeing how other people perform, in a sense, learning from experience. I suggest looking around and see what is available as far as acting projects in your community. Music, Singing and dancing, are also great avenues to get you into the acting scene. You need to cultivate talents that make you a person that a director might want in his play of movie or whatever. I believe expirience is the greatest key when it comes to acting, and as far as schools might be helpful, it might be best to try and get involved with a smaller production first, not expecting to be the star, but looking to see if you will enjoy it. I have several friends who have looked at my enthusiasm and enjoyment at the theater and what I do and they gave it a try, but they didn't quite realize the time commitment and challenge it was and they gave up. I love it and will continue with it no matter what, but it's not for everyone, so I suggest trying to get involved with some production and see how you like. Quite a broad question and I gave some broad answers, but I hope it helps a little. Good luck, and if you want to ask me anything else personally you can send an email if you like.

Nathan

A good place to start is by reading the trades. Try backstagewest.com for starters.
