We all know that it is illegal to videotape a production without obtaining mechanical rights. I'm curious if any groups have actually obtained mechanical rights. Our group has received a request by some of the local cable stations to air a production which we are currently in rehearsal for. Has anyone actually attempted to get mechanical rights, and how expensive is it? Are there any logistic problems associated with doing this? How about obtaining rights with the intent to sell video tapes to patrons as a way to raise funds?
