My alma mater's theatre has the ability to show movies in it's stage theatre. They are thinking of setting up a fund-raiser where they show movies (not charging for the movies, but charging for the concessions - to get around some legalities) during the 'down' time. Does anyone have a good suggestion for websites and/or books for them to do the research on the exact legalities of starting up a movie theatre? Thanks!

Hi! More and more small towns are starting up movie houses these days. Our community center, a converted jr high school, runs current movies just a couple weeks behind there release. This past weekend we ran "Daddy Day Care". There is a great expense in renting current releases just like the regular multiplex. Sounds like you are more interested in film festiva;\ls and old film shorts. They are cheaper, but it is not realistic to assume concesions are goingto generate the profits maintain the film rental and projector upkeep. Investigate towns arouind you and surely somewhere you can find a movie house such as ours, Unfortunately, I dont know of any material you can look up, but if you are interested I can get the info on hte distributor we use. Good luck! It will be a lot of fun once you get it going.
