The Annie script calls for a scrim.  Is there anyone who has done Annie that knows what kind of a scrim to rent and some basic advice on how to use it.  Our lighting is done by a high school senior who has no experience with scrims.  Please help.   Thanks.

It actually depends on your set design.  Normally the scrim is a 1/2 stage that  goes in front of the orphans in the orphanage prior to "Never Fully Dressed" reprise.  The radio set is on one side of the stage and the orphanage is on the other side (normally the radio station is stage left and the orphanage is stage right).  You can put light behind the scrim so you can see the orphans listening to the radio show, then fly the scrim as soon as the radio performers leave the stage and send the lights to full.  This makes for no break between the radio station version of "Never Fully Dressed" and the orphan's reprise.

You can rent directly from studio-productions-inc.com

A scrim is basically a 'what-you-light-is-what-you-see" phenomenon.  If you light the scrim and keep it dark behind the scrim its opaque.  To see through it it you light the person/set behind the scrim (being careful to not light the scrim by mistake) and you see through the holes in the scrim.

In the case of the Chameleon scrim (studio Productions product) the person/set has a charactertic halo or glow.  Chameleon is also far easier to keep opaque--sharkstooth is really tough to make opaque lots of folks cheat by dropping something behind a sharkstooth quickly.
