Hey,
I'm currently the Props Master for a show at a summer stock company and we need three 1950s "Elvis" style microphones for our first show. I have looked on e-bay and on other sites, but most of those microphones are way out of our budget range, and the places online I've found to try to rent microphones are also expensive, or else in other countries.
Does anyone know a decently priced place to rent vintage microphones? Or how to make microphones that look real (since we don't need them to work?)
Help!
Thanks.

You might check with your local (or nearest) radio stations. Ask the staff (or Chief) Engineer if they have any old mics available for loan. Most stations have a few old Shure mics gathering dust. Classic RCA mics are a little harder to procure. Good Luck! |

If you don't need them to work:
Take plastic bottles similar to the shape you desire,
get creative with some masking tape for a base
and paint them in the desired pattern.
Turning them upside down and using the bottle opening
to attach them to mike stands might do the trick.

We used regular mic stands and then created styrofoam look a likes that cover the clip top when we need to use a vintage style head. We cut foam into two sort of oblong pyramids, then glued them together and painted them. The base of one was cut out so that it fit over the top. They worked really quite well and we could reuse them for other shows. THis also only works if you use wireless or overhead mics for the actual sound.
