No problem! This site has been fantastic for things like that. A Few years ago we did Cyrano De Bergerac and found a great source for our noses on this message board! They were delivered to us in great condition and we used them for the months run of the show. It really does help to get to know people. Earnest has always been our our short list...I would love to build some costumes for the that show. Where do you usually get your costumes from?

hee, hee. Our actors usually provide their own costumes ::)) We've done a lot of southern comedies, so costuming is provided through their closets and goodwill.

I helped costume "A Funny Thing Happened on the way..." but still, it's silly comedia, so it was easy, too.

I can construct stuff, but no way can I really follow a pattern and sew like your wonderful volunteers! Your sets and costumes and just lovely...have I said that yet?

Wow! That is is good amount of trust on your part! We usually have a pretty good idea of what we want our cast to look like. Funny thing is always a blast to do!!!

This was from Robber Bridegroom last year  and Cyrano the year before.

Thanks! We really do have some great people working for us. I learned to sew from my mom...and following a patter is much easier than one might think! I made my first corset a few years ago and have managed to do 10 this season! We did cheat and buy a few tho as well...

Looks like a wonderful production - congratulations!

We saw the Goodspeed production three years ago. It was absolutely delightful - and really did look like Pirates of the Caribbean LOL.

Yes that Goodspeed production was moved up to Boston this past summer and done pretty much in the same fashion (including costumes) we went a couple times, stole some ideas, and did a Caribbean re-do of the PofP. It was a stunning production, that up here defintely riled up some G&S lovers! Thanks for the congrats! It was a blast to do.

No problem Tammy, one of my favorite parts of these message boards is seeing people's pictures!!

Goodspeed is quite a remarkable institution. Next time you hear anyone complaining about the size of their stage, or that there just isn't enough fly or wing space to do anything, or how can anybody expect to run a theater on the second floor, just send them down to Goodspeed for an attitude adjustment. If I recall correctly, their proscenium is at 17', but the ceiling backstage is at 18' and wing space is about 8' depending on how you measure it. They do a lot with roll-up drops that are beautifully painted, along with other exquisitely crafted very creative solutions. They do truly excellent theater in a cute little theater on the 4th floor. I'd advise anyone to take in one of their productions.

Yes their work is amazing!!! I have always envied their costume shop and was excited to learn that most of the stuff they build is for rent off their websh*te! With wing space of 8 feet...what they present is pretty remarkable! We base many of our designs off of their material and Trinity Rep in Providence...also a fantastic show if anyone visits Providence!

Beautiful Pictures neilfortin!!! Where did you get the sisters dresses, the detail on those bodices is amazing. Tongue We are just finishing a production of the Rivals and have some amazing costumes that were built specifically for the production. What did your actresses think of wearing corsets, I love when Community theater really brings it to a proff level. Thumbs%20Up

Where is your theater, the sets seem to be built right onto the floor and then on a raised platform?

Fantastic to see such beautiful photos, I would love to see other productions , especially some costume details. Who has done shows with 18th century styling ?

Thanks Simplicity,

The sisters dresses were actually built for the show...we revamped an old Simplicty pattern and made it into a two peice dress with boned bodices becuase part of the script details the sisters taking the dresses off, and undressing down to their corsets and bloomers (So those had to be made as well, 10 steel boned corsets to fit 10 very different women...yikes!)

Thanks...we really strive to be proffessional with everything we do, the detail on the Sisters gowns is beautiful, most was taken from fashion plates from the time, and also much inspriation from Sophia Coppola's Marie Antionette, inlcuding the hand pleated trim, military style 1770's zone-front gowns, and the hand-tied bows.

The theater is in Hanson, MA a small town on the South shore between Boston and Cape Cod. It is in the old home of a Boston coal baron who had a large ballroom build. We use the stage end of the ballroom plus the floor, and allow for building all over the room really creating the enviornment we are striving for!

Thanks for the great compliments...i love the 18th century too...such beautiful clothing, I would love to build some upper-class men's coats/vests...but haven't had the opportunity...
