hey guys,

ive been in 8 productions in the last 4 years, i act with the local theatre group and with my old school when i was a student, so i always wanted to be the one giving the directions and have the play go my way. so now i might have that chance. im puting together my final proposal foward to my old school for directing their school play this year and hope i get it.

i plan on doing "a chritsmas carol" cause ive seen the movie about a billion times so i know the vibe of what should happen and ill be purchasing the script from lazybee scripts and it will help me alot with giving hints and notes ect.

the people that will be my stars are also my friends wich ive acted with and hung around with for years. ive been asked if that will make it harder or easier and i do believe it will be easier as theyll listen to me like they have for years or else theres no show going on heheLOL. i know i can organise them and get a great show put together so wish me luck with the school today.

also if any can offer any usefull tips as to being an effective director for a play with a cast of mostly 14-17 year olds than please tell me, also if anyones got any ideas for props/costumes/sounds/lighting please let me know, cya
put on a good show but have fun doing so

Sounds good. Keep having fun!

Be very organized.  Get started early, at leasy a month before rehearsals start.

Get lots of help.  Have someone else be responsible for costumes, props, etc.  Keep them on task.

Something that I have discovered (not solely on my own, but through talking with others, too) is that while acting and crewing often  makes for an "esprit de corps", directing can be a lonely experience!  You are not backstage with the cast, getting in on all the talk.  Often things happen there that you know nothing of and may feel very much the stranger, even if you are great friends with your cast.   Practice good two-way communication, setting aside time to share your vision of the show at the beginning and listening to their ideas, too.  Establish a time line for everything that you can think of (within reason) and stick to it (within reason).  Break a leg and let us know how things went with the school!

Good luck with it, you cannot go wrong with a classic. Would recommend you pull someone with experience in alongside you as an assistant. Also, as somebody mentioned above, be sure not to take on everything yourself, assign good people to specific roles, and give them a fair level of flexibility with their role. Finally, take a look at these, two very strong scripts for your consideration. Always keep options open.
