The Collaborative Act Studio, a process driven theater company and actor’s studio, has chosen as their third production, a classic; Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke, a gripping drama and somber study of unrequited love, fraught with the repressed, unrelenting power of desire. Set in provincial Mississippi, the spinsterish Miss Alma Winemiller, finds her only solace in a struggle to forge a connection with the boy-next-door, the wild, handsome, Dr. John Buchanan Jr.  Eventually, Alma is tortured by her unrequited passion and begins to make desperate attempts to get John’s attention.  Alma’s repressed nature clashes with John's wanton ways, leading to a climatic battle of wills that changes them both forever. 

Tennessee Williams' Summer and Smoke was hailed by The New York Times as "a gently torrid parable of body and soul." Cara Horner, Miss Alma Winemiller, gives a riveting, heartbreaking performance.  Jim Collins brings one of Tennessee Williams' most sensuous leading male roles to life, in his stirring portrayal of Dr. John Buchanan Jr.

Summer and Smoke is directed by The Collaborative Act Studio’s Producing Artistic Director, Ted Wioncek III (The Wilma Theatre, The Walnut Street Theatre, BCKSEET Productions).
