bullet Topic: Area Wide Audition Coming up!
    Posted: 6/15/08 at 3:20pm
Ok so I finally (now that I have a new headshot) am breaking out of community theatre (I love it, but I wanted to try my hand in Portland), and having an audition for the PATA's (Portland Area Theatre Alliance).  It is the normal cattle call type of audition where theatre company directors come and watch as actors show them 2 contrasting monologues (you get 3 min).

As soon as I'm called from the lobby, I go right in and begin...so the question is...do I enter the theatre, walk to center stage and begin and give my "introduction" at the end?  Or do I walk in, introduce my pieces and myself and then begin? I feel that I will be less nervous if I do the former but I don't want to get "docked" points if I do not introduce myself..they will already have my headshot in front of them.

I'm doing one piece from Crazy and a Half (great community theatre play...we did it couple months ago), and Pure as the Driven Snow (melodrama we just did, and it was a HUGE success).

They are next Sunday so any advice is appreciated!

Introduce yourself and your piece, take a moment to collect yourself, and then begin.  BREAK A LEG!!!

Enter, FIND YOUR LIGHT and introduce yourself.
"I'm [insert your name here]."
1 one-thousand, 2 one-thousand
"My first piece is [Character] from [Show], My second piece is [Character] from [Show].

Begin your first piece.

Once finished make your character transition obvious but don't take more than a 3 one-thousand count.

Begin your second piece

When you finish your audition compose yourself, smile, and say "thank you!"

FIND YOUR LIGHT! something that is so often overlooked by actors auditioning is the ability to find their light it can get you big points just for doing that one little thing at auditions.
There are NO small roles, only small actors...
