A friend of mine is getting set to direct The Book of Liz by David and Amy Sedaris. Along with a lot of odd things she needs a character who sweats a great deal, getting moister and moister on stage.
I suggested perhaps using oil on a costume underneath a jacket or sweater that the character could remove, but that is pretty much all I could think of. Anyone ever had to create an actor who is supposed to sweat? LOL |

I've never created a sweating actor but I think your oil idea is a good place to start. If the character dabs himself with a hankie then perhaps the hankie does not need to be dry, but be moist with oil. He can be spritzed backstage with it as well. His makeup will be coming off...might need a pretty sturdy base.
Much will have to be the power of suggestion for the audience I would think. Mainly make him look shiny and wet.

how about rigging some type of hosing under his arms that is self-controlled using a turkey baster. We have done this with blood to much succcess, when the bulb of the turkey baster is squeezed the water will be forced out the tube wetting the shirt he is wearing... |
