Topic: fake cigarette? Posted: 1/13/04 at 11:22am |
Hi! We need cigarettes that appear to be lit. I have found some "fake puffing cigarettes" online but don't know if they'll appear lit. I have heard of fake cigarettes with a small LED in the end- that perhaps the actor could squeeze & the end would light, giving the appearance of a drag on the cigarette. Has anyone else heard of such a thing & if so, where might I find one? Thank you!

small LED light rapped in a piece of paper. if you want smoke. use something like powdered suger that is put inside the paper with the LED light. it stays dry then when inhaled and immediatly exhaled it gives the effect of smoke.

Let's face it, you can't fake real cigarette smoke! As for the powder sugar suggestion...do you really want powder sugar all over the costumes and around the actors' lips? Most people are aware of the smoking limitations in many theaters, and will extend their suspension of disbelief to cover "pretend smoking." We did Neil Simon's Rumors in which one character is dying for a smoke, and eventually, lights up as the second act curtain rises. It's a funny bit but we did in in a school auditorium where smoking for any reason was prohibited. So, the actress just puffed on a cold cigarette. We got only positive responses from the audience who loved the play. No one complained about the fake smoking. |

I found a fake cigarette in my prop closet. I would like to get more. Any ideas where I can order them? |

Heathd, I did finally find some online- at: http://www.thecostumer.com/store/product.cfm?prodID=445 They work great, but only good for about 3 or 4 "puffs"- hee. However, we did find you could "recharge" them pretty easily with some cornstarch with very little mess. Just pull out the "lit" tip & fill with cornstarch. Voila. Enjoy!

re: Fake Cigarettes I work at a large regional theatre, where we have started using fake cigarettes this year. They REALLY look lit, being ash glued to a red foil, and the "puff" looks great too. I just found a website (noveltieswholesale.com) which sells them by the dozen, but I appreciate the suggestion that they can be recharged. We have been buying them at joke shops such as Spencer's Gifts. |

you can make fake cigarettes by takeing cotton and rolling it in a lot of clalk dust. then rap the cotton in some paper with two holes on each side and blow into it. somke will come out of it and it will look really cool. but dont inhale or you can get sick.

A simple solution is get red glitter-glue and gold
glitter-glue from your local craft shop and squeeze out equal small amounts into a dish. Then use actual cigarettes, cigars (or rolled up paper) and smear the ends into the two colors, creating a red-and-gold swirl at the tip. It dries in 30 minutes. Under the lights, the reflective glitter does a very convincing job of impersonating a lit cigarette. |
