bullet Topic: Bleeding Garrote Needed
    Posted: 3/06/07 at 10:22am
Does anyone know either how to make or where I could find a garrote that bleeds? I really need to strangle one of the characters in our play and I would like for it to bleed. How fun.

I have tried to find a good prop resource online but so far all I have found is bad Halloween sites.

Thanks for any help in this matter.

Sounds like you are doing Deathtrap!

What I did when I directed Deathtrap: I created a regular rope garotte (see photo on my Flickr site of my wall of weapons), and the character playing Clifford just had a blood packet palmed in his hand - when he went to act like he was struggling against it, up went the hand against his hand, and voila - bloody neck.

Another idea would be to use "Magic Blood Powder" by Graftobian.  It's an invisible powder you apply to the skin, and when wiped or sprayed with water, it turns to "blood".  You could use something porous that can be soaked in water for the garrotte "wire", and then you would use a swiping motion across the victims's neck to activate the powder for the bleeding effect.  Pretty realisitc from close range too, if you are in a smaller theatre.

Check out Gratobian's blood products at http://www.graftobian.com/index5.htm
The blood powder is towards the bottom of the page.

Hope this helps,

We made a garrote very similar to the one on the site Dan gave. It worked pretty well and looked as good.
