Currently in rehearsal for Mr. Roberts. We need SOAPSUDS. Is there any way to make more durable soapsuds? I've tried mixing bubble bath with an electric mixer, but the bubbles have very little 'styaing' power. Any ideas? |

Try adding a mixture of glycerin and sugar. The glycerin will add body and the sugar will make them sticky. Depending on how much bubbles you need or how much water you're using you'll have to experiment with getting the proper dosage. Try mixing a small batch first to see if you get the consistency and durability you're after. Also, either use a quality dishwashing soap (Joy or Dawn works best), or laundry detergent. These products tend to be thicker than your average bubble bath. Bubble bath is designed to be gentle to your skin -- you want something beefier. Whatever you do, don't get this stuff in your eyes! It will burn like holy fire! Good luck. |

When I was shopping one year to fill Christmas stockings I came across "unpoppable bubbles" They came in a little plastic screw top jar with a plastic wand...just like the regular bubbles we all had as a kid. Unable to resist I bought them and they relly worked. The bubbles were light enough to float but really tough...as a matter of fact they were still clinging to the walls and floor the next morning!If you thinned them a bit with water I bet they'd work really well. Now I can't remember where I bought them..maybe a Toys R Us or something like that. Why don't you google unpoppable bubbles and see what novelty companies come up.

Topper is right with adding Glycerine.
The Glycerine will build the glycerol content of the soap & help in splitting the fatty acids to produce a larger amount of suds. The sugar should reinforce the structure of the detergent bubbles & retain them a lot longer. You could use honey of course to make it gentler on the skin & as soft as a babies bum! Although I like the idea from Joan with the off the shelf bubbles. Maybe you could mix the two ideas for a better outcome! |
