Help! I am DESPARATE for cheap ideas for a Middle School Dance in Dec. The theme is "An Evening in Paris". We have ordered a 17' Eiffel Tower and a 32' long skyline....and THESE have already stretched our budget! I am picturing a "fake" street of buildings, shoppes, cafe's, etc. but I don't know how to make it work! We have access to large sheets of cardboard and I have lots of volunteers BUT...how do I create a city street against a 100 foot wall in our gym??????? Also, need to make our concession area into a "Bistro".....need to make an awning of some kind...EEEKKKK! ANY IDEAS?????????I've never been to France so I am trying to pull it together from pictures and TV!  THANKS.........Paige

If you've seen the movie Something's Gotta Give, there's a scene set in a theatre on a Paris set. You could look at that for some ideas.

You could have the Eiffel Tower in the centre of your stage, and then - at either side of it - have flats in the shape of shops like this:

If you can't paint something like that, you could even just try having black flats with yellow windows? You could also have a couple of old-fashioned lampposts sitting in your street scene, and maybe a park bench. A table and chairs could sit outside a cafe.

You could also have the Moulin Rouge windmill painted onto a flat (you could use fairy lights shaped to spell out "Moulin Rouge" on the flat) and maybe the Arc de Triomphe on the other side ... hmm I'm not sure.

have you thought about using Gobos? I use these for school dances all the time. Your local theatre supply place should be able to help you. I know Apollo makes an Arch De... I just used one for the party.

they run about $13.00 a piece. You do need a elipsoidal to run it though. Perhaps your school theatre has some of these?
