Hi, I have been directing for about 4 years now for my local high school. Well they have just decided that they now want me to perform a musical this fall. I was thinking something along the lines of Annie Get Your Gun or Bye Bye Birdie. Problem is I can't find Annie Get Your Gun. I have Information from Tams-Witmark but is there any other musical resources that anyone could recommend for me. I am looking for a company with a website that will be able to give me information like a synopsis, cast size and info, and orchestra info. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you |

Annie Get Your Gun is carried by Rodgers and Hammerstein Theatre Library www.rnh.com . You should be able to get all the basic info you are looking for from them. If you are looking for other places to look for musicals try Music Theatre International www.mtishows.com and Samuel French www.samuelfrench.com .

We have a number of musicals in our catalogue that are suitable for use in high schools ... AD79 is the story of the lives and loves, dreams and schemes of the citizens of Roman Pompeii just prior to the earth shattering events that would leave the town forever frozen in time. The only musical where the audience knows how it ends, before the curtain goes up! Suitable for adult groups or youth actors aged 15+ approx.
The Razzle Dazzle Man has a story based loosely on the parables of The Seven Deadly Sins and The Prodigal Son but is written in a modern style to interest (and hopefully educate) today's students. With its complement of rock 'n roll songs, love songs and superb dance possibilities, "The Razzle Dazzle Man" is an excellent choice for an end-of-term extravaganza. Star Crossed is an affectionate take on space sagas. Set on board the Alpha Zee in a galaxy not far away, it tells the story of chidlhood friends Rocky (the captain) and Ricky (his junior Navigation Officer), who, together with Princess Alena (a stowaway) try and outwit the evil General Garth and his henchmen, Bill and Bob. They mean to capture the runaway Princess, and return her to Imperator Zaphon, her father, by using mind probes on the crew and revealing certain information about Ricky and Rocky's past. The musical is a fun two-act piece with easy-to-learn music and lyrics. You can find more information together with prices (in British Pounds) for rehearsal material and royalties on our website ... ... where online ordering is available with payment in US Dollars. best regards David |

mdelange, if you don't find anything on any websites, try looking up
the shows on halleonard.com.au . They're an Australian licensing agent
for MTI, Tams Witmark (I think), Josef Weinberger etc. etc. etc., but,
in short, they usually have all the information for the shows (e.g.
orchestration, cast etc.) and in some cases are more reliable in this
respect than the websites of the actually companies who license the
shows.
Otherwise, try finding other theatre company's websites and check out the cast lists etc. for the shows you're interested in. That may give you an idea. |

OH NO!!!! Not Bye-Bye-Birdie!!! That show is way overdone (by community theaters, and High Schools alike). If I can suggest something like, Into the Woods, Once upon this Island, Crazy for you (something like that).
All you ever have to do is type in the names of the shows you are looking for (if you don't know where to find them), onto a search engine such as Google, and it can help you locate it.
Also, since you might be getting in touch with publishing companies, you might want to ask for a brocure of their stuff. Just a suggestion. |

Look for the book, SO YOU WANT TO DO A MUSICAL. I believe it's by
Peter Felicia. It really tells you everything you need to know about almost every major (and many lesser-known) musicals you might want to ever produce. It's a wonderful resource and it's in paperback, too. It's updated from time to time, as well. Colin |
