I am a 37 year old man in central New Jersey who is looking to
get involved in community theatre. I have often been told I sould be on a stage. I would greatly appreciate any information that you can provide me in ammature community theater in my area. My therapist says I need to get out more...LOL. |

Need a little more info -- are you looking for amateur theaters in your area, or are you trying to learn about what theaters in central NJ are looking for in actors and how to get involved? If you're trying to locate theaters, check the arts or entertainment sections of your daily and weekly newspapers, especially the Friday-Sunday editions of the dailies, or do a Google search structured like this: (theater or theatre) +(locale, New Jersey). Replace locale with the name of any town, county or city where you're willing to work.If you post a more specific location ("central New Jersey" is a pretty big area!), someone on these boards may be able to give you the info you're looking for. If you want to learn how to get involved, read through these forums, read the articles on this site, and post any other questions you may have here. It's like every other volunteer organization -- you don't need an invitation, you just have to show up and be willing to work. Most theaters are delighted to have fresh blood walk through the door! If your primary interest is acting, be especially sure to read my article on auditioning at http://www.communitytheater.org/articles/audition.htm. If you've never done this before, and it sounds like you haven't, tell yourself at the outset that you have a lot to learn and then set about to learn it. There are many things about creating a character on stage that only come with experience, so you've got a long way to go. The good news is that stage work is some of the most fun and rewarding work you'll ever do! Edited by Chris Polo |
