bullet Topic: Good piece for Audition
    Posted: 2/15/05 at 2:31am
Hey, first off, I'd like to say that, though I'm a total newbie, I think that both the forum and this site in general are really helpful, and, somewhat ironically, very proffesional.

Secondly, I'd like to ask for a bit off help in choosing an audition piece for my school musical. It's Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, which I have researched some, and it seems fairly interesting. I am fifteen years old, but could pass for a year older, I suppose. My official vocal range is mezzo-soprano, though I can nail a good number of soprano and alto parts pretty well.

I guess my querie would be this; what part should I hope/audition for, and what songs would you recommend? I've considered Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again  as well as On My Own, but maybe those are too ambitious?

Anyways, sorry if I sounded totally idiotic. Any ideas or suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Ciao.

Whatever you choose make sure it is something akin to the part you are trying out for.  For example, don't do something too mature if you are hoping for a part as an ingenue; don't do something too dramatic if you want the comic role. Get it?  I don't know the show 7 Brides except the movie and I don't know On My Own, but if the movie is any indication, I would say that your choice of "Wishing you were somehow here again" is too mature and too dramatic for the parts available in the show you're auditioning for. How about "16 going on 17" from Sound of Music or "Much More" from the Fantasticks?
