We were all set to do Harvey for our spring play (high school) only to find out the rights are restricted. We haven't gotten a no YET, but neither have we gotten  the go ahead. We are looking for alternatives .just in case. I've  read  many of the postings on other good shows. The problem is many seem abit too adult for high school kids.

In the past  couple years they have done: You can't Take it with you and Henrietta the eighth. Any other ideas out there that might be good? We've looked at Our Town and Arms and The Man (abit too heavy for 2 directors working together for the first time)

Help..we are getting desperate  Thanks a bunch

One of the best plays I've seen is "The Great Big Doorstep" by the writers who adapted Anne Frank's diary into a play: Goodrich and Hacket.  Although I have only seen it once and honestly have never heard of another production of it, it is available through Dramatic Publishing.  I saw a high school performance of it back in the 60's when I was but a youth, and loved it.  Very sweet comic play about a large, poor family in the Louisiana bayou country. Check it out.

Two suggestions for your group:

I have done these shows (in addition to Harvey) with H.S. students. Both were successful and are recommended....

Play On! (R. Abbott)..very silly farce about staging a play. Kids enjoyed working on it. Easy to stage, castume etc. as it takes place in a theater. Some humor and situation make it more appropriate to community rather than H.S. groups...but we had fun and so did the audiences.

Auntie Mame (Lawrence and Lee). Cast and audience favorite. Must have a very strong female lead and several very strong, experienced supporting players. Costume heavy. Kids loved the theme of "Live live, live...!" and the individuality of the main character. Large cast (doubles and even triples possible)

Good Luck,
