OK here is the deal... the set actually calls for three stories with two sets of stairs. Our biggest challenge is that in the theatre we work in the set must be portable. We only would have perhaps one week if that to fix the set permantly on the stage. Because of the multiuse of the theatre they have put this constraint on all dramatic productions. There is almost no room stage left to move a set off stage and stage right is not fully half the stage either. They obviously only spoke to the music department when designing the dang thing (It it lovely on the outside and in the house though) We also have a building Nazi who it very cautious about railings and such and goes overboard on occasion. The last thing the show asks for is a golf cart dressed up to look like a 1917 electric cart. It has to drive around the stage. I have no idea whether or not they will let us have one of those on stage. OK I will take any suggestions I can get for set design... fortunately my husband is responsible for this in the end and I just have to do costumes. |

Which ever way you look at it - It is going to cost quite a few Gold Bricks! Possibly try to manipulate the scripting, while ?reviewing the situation? or ?Fink it out again?! However if you can get away with just 2 levels, you may have a chance - but with 3? You could have Buckleys &/or no chance! However you might still have an options - so long as, all levels don?t have to be in view, at the same time. In which case you might get away with just 2 levels & a lot of illusion, with the second level utalised as the third. By using a bit of imagination, flown cloths &/or projected effects. If every thing is dead hung, use roll drop or a continuos one - Which could be a mechanical nightmare, if you lack the expertise &/or resources? Failing that, divide the space into separate zones & use the staircase with effective lighting, to achieve the result. You could also shake up the venue management, by openly seeking a more accommodating space. Chookas |
