Directors are creative, and creative people are not always well organized. That's why we need producers and stage managers. Quite frankly, I think your director has his hands very full if he has taken full responsibility for all aspects of the production. It may be too late for this production, but perhaps some members of your group could volunteer to be "in charge" of certain aspects of the show. The production and technical aspects of theatre are just as important as the acting, and in a formal educational environment such as yours, might even be worth extra credit??? If nothing else, harmonious relations and a greater sense of team should move you closer to a great production. Good luck.

You know, I'd partially agree...but a week or so ago we all found out that he lied about getting to do a full show to get people to register for class...then dragged everything out for weeks untill we couldn't drop the class and get our money back and then told us it was to be a minimalist show...which doesn't work well for farces. He's even cutting out lines in the script to account for lack of set...like when my charactor comes into the house everytime the person leading me in says "three steps down, 1, 2, 3" This is important because (i'm blind) when my character is led to an open window, he counts three steps up thinking it's the door then falls out. Of course we have to steps leading into the house, but we'll have some ladder or stool leading up to the window. So he's cutting out the whole steps gag because of the minimalist set. he should have been honest from the get go and told us we're only doing one-acts. That would have been so much easier. |

No doubt you are in a tough situation, but your decision now should be are you going to go on stage and make a fool of yourself, or are you going to make the best of a bad situation? There's little you can do about your director's past omissions, so don't eat yourself up worrying about it. What can you do to still make the production great, despite its problems? |

You're completely right and after shaking all the bad feelings off
we're doing the show best we can but we've all decided as an ensemble
that we're never taking anymore classes at that college for theatre or
acting. There's a large sense of betrayal in the air. One of the
theatre groups in town is actually staring a school so a lot of us are
looking in that direction now.
