"Ruthless," "Weird Romance," "Six Women with Brain Death or
Inquiring Minds Want to Know," "Nunsense," "The Apple Tree" all have great female roles - and fairly demanding scores. "Ruthless" requires some serious tap dancing from one character. "The Apple Tree" is written to be performed with one male and one female playing the leads in each act - but it also works JUST as well with a different female and different male in each act (to spread the wealth ![]() Some old timers that are funny are "Fade Out/Fade In" (a Carol Burnett unknown), "On the 20 Century" (LOTS of great roles - and a very demanding score) and - believe it or not - "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (if directed with the comedy right out front, can be HYSTERICAL). Good luck! |

oops. sorry. Just saw on another thread that you're in high
school - "Six Women with Brain Death," "Ruthless," and "Weird Romance" wouldn't be appropriate. Sorry! ![]() |

THE BELLS ARE RINGING. Great lead role with supporting female and male roles.

"Once Upon a Mattress" is a surefire hit with lots of women's roles and full
of comedy. Lately "Seussical the Musical" has been popular in our area theatres, both HS and community. "Honk" is another good choice, based on the story of the Ugly Duckling. "Anne of Green Gables" is a pleasant and popular musical for families that features a lot of women's roles, too. Give a listen and look at "Lucky Stiff," too. |

"Hello Dolly" has a great female lead, as well as other supporting
males and females. Cole Porter's "Anything Goes" also has a lot
of female leads. "Annie Get Your Gun" would also be a great
choice, along with countless others. Do you have any limitations
that might help us narrow down some choices?

A...My Name is Alice is a musical review with 5 women and is very funny with a few serious bits thrown in. It's excellent. I think it's Samuel French.

You might want to see if the rights are available for Sweet Charity
(currently on Broadway) and Little Women (which just closed on Broadway) and maybe Chicago. Little Women doesn't really qualify as a comedy, but it's got the women's roles. |

We just produced "The Boy Friend" with an all student cast, ages 8-17
years! It was so much fun, such a learning experience for the kids and the audiences loved it! Consider using large cards with subtitles on them for the various French phrases...it was hilarious to have them popping up all over the stage. Lots of fun, but not difficult songs and dances, and the women are very important in this show. Julie Andrews got her start in this musical, and she's directing a new version of it now to tour the States. Colin |

We just saw Ms. Andrews' production of "The Boyfriend" at the
Goodspeed a couple of weeks ago - it's really charming. But - not difficult dances? All that tapping??? I didn't realize that it was going on tour - I hope that a lot of people get a chance to see it - it's a delightful two hours! |
