Hi ... I've been reading plays and plays and plays looking for a really dynamic one act drama for competition next year. Anybody have any suggestions?? I've done Birdbath (made it to Nationals), The Actor's Nightmare (won States, 3rd at Regionals), and Scooter Thomas Makes It to the Top of the World (2nd Place at Nationals last year!) and this year, Closet Madness - a flop in all regards, sadly!
So, anyone done or read anything really great that would work in a 50 minute format with a minimal set? Prefer 2-3 characters, the more dramatic the better! email me at des@neverdream.com? Thanks! |

Hi. I'm completely new to the theatre world, tho I've been a writer for years. I eventually want to get into the acting aspect of theatre, and learn all the in's and out's.
I have always wanted to bring one of my poem scripts to life, through theatre. I guess you could call it 'experimental theatre'. It is titled: "Pulsating Aches Between Heart Kisses". 7 scenes within 1 act. Two characters, both women, 1940's, and the setting is of the home, their intimacies, and the spiritual elements around them. The spiritual undertones create such an ambiance within the characters, and the barrier that exists for them in the outside world seems non-existant because of their strong emotional bond. Even in the 1940's, love between two women cannot hide when the power of pulsating aches kisses your brow. I can offer more details if interested. Thanks for listening. Jules |

I like "Suppressed Desires" by Susan Glaspell, and "Trifles" also by Susan Glaspell. (Haven't seen or produced either one of them, but they read well and would like to produce both.) One that we have done is part of a set of 4 short plays under the title of "You Know I Can't Hear you When the Water's Running" -- the one called "I'm Herbert" is about as funny as they come. A great farce is "Passion Poison and Petrifaction" by George Bernard Shaw. These are all pretty old plays. The newest of them is "I'm Herbert" and it is over 30 years old. The others are probably from the 1920's or 1930's.

Oh! Just re-reading your original post...you want dynamic dramas...well "Trifles" is still one I'd recommend.

How about Who Am I This Time? - I'm not sure who wrote the play but it is from a Kurt Vonnegut book - there was a made for TV movie made from it that is available - I have seen both the movie and the play and I like the play far better.
