To all those interested:
I am a junior in college majoring in theater and have successfully started my own theater company. The first thing you need to do is have some start up money if you want to be a non profit. You need a charitable purpose, a clear mission statement and bylaws. I recommened "How to Start Your Own Non Profit Corporation" which I took out of the library. That helped me a lot. You can also visit irs.gov for answers on how to fill out their form which i did my self, and had a lawyer review for free. In total it cost me about 750 by the time it was all said and done. I also recommend, Theater Production and and Management in America by Stephen Langley. I applied for my first local grant and received $1000, and got my first sponsorship fromt he local bank. We're on our way! We are located in Union,NJ. And will produce "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, for our inaugaral season. We are in negotiations to have the local Board of Ed waive the fees for renting a school auditorium. If you'd like to help, volunteer, or want more information contact me at stagepresence@njtheater.com |
