....or the benefit of your collective wisdom. I have taken on the challenge of trying to start a drama club in our small town school. The kids currently do one High School play a year and seem to really enjoy it. They have asked for more opportunities, and we are looking at ways to get started. I am actively ( by any sane standards, over active) in several area community theaters, but I don’t really know how to go about starting a school based program, beyond the once a year routine we have now. Does anyone have any good links, books, ideas, starting points… valium? Seriously, we don’t want to reinvent the wheel, and I’m sure there must be something out there that would be a good starting point. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As I just recently stepped into the current high school program in my area I can appreciate your need for valium. I would reccomend checking with OTHER schools in the area to look at their drama dept. That might be the best place to get an idea of what the schools can do. There is the money issue as well. How much is the school willing to part with (they can be VERY stingy) Since the program already exists and you want to just expand, might not be too difficult. At my school we do 2 shows a year. Fall musical and then the spring play. Maybe an "improv" or talent show thrown in there too. But 2 big productions.
Hope this helps alittle. Nice to know the insanity is being spread around :) Good luck! |
