Hi!
I'm a student looking for a basis of stage makeup. I've heard lots of theories about dots beside the eyes making them look bigger, a white line down your nose is a necessity, etc. I was looking for some tips on basic stage makeup. I am female, but as a leader of my Drama Club, I get looked upon to do the makeup for everyone, including the guys. How much is "too" much on a guy? Thanks! Padfoot |

There are many great book about theatrical make up. You could also try to call a local college or university to see if they have someone who could come out and do a demo for you. In my local area grad students do this kind of demo pretty often. Also contact Ben Ney and see if they have any materials they can send you. Many vendors will send this kind of stuff out free of charge to teachers and theatre staff. good luck!

"Stage Makeup" by Richard Corson is a large,
folio-sized book, filled with many color photos, b&w photos, diagrams and such. It is practically the make-up artist's bible and is updated in newer editions regularly to keep pace with the changing trends. It is expensive (about $75.00) in its current, Ninth edition, but earlier editions may be available for review at your library or for purchase at discount bookshops. Good luck! |

Check out: http://www.kevynaucoin.com/lessons/?highlighting It's not reall 'stage make up' but the basics are the same. As for how much is too much? It depends on the lighting in your theatre - I'd say just keep trying until you see what works Nyria |
