Has anyone out there got words of wisdom on how to go about staging readings for the public? Sounds simple, I know, but here are some specific questions: what's a reasonable charge for admission in a non-urban area? do you stick to royalty free material? are people interested in seeing staged readings? I'm dealing with a community group that can barely pull together actors and staff to continue offering a slate of shows to sell as a season ticket package. People just don't have the time to commit to rehearsing and producing a show (totals about 8 weeks per show). We're thinking maybe we should try green room productions that would offer a more short-term and flexible time requirement. Anyone have experience with this sort of thing? I'd love to hear your comments about this format--both positive and negative. suzyQ |

Several years ago I wrote an article on Readers Theater - it is on this
site under "articles". We continue to do Readers Theater and
radio shows. They continue to be popular - there is a different
group of actors involved who do not have the time (or attention span)
for a full production.
I know more and more theater groups that are doing Readers Theater to fill in between productions. Doug |
