During the play "Run For Your Wife" an actor onstage has to slowly begin to eat the front page of a newspaper. He doesn't swallow, just chews. I have tried this with a regular newspaper printed with soy ink, and it tasted terrible. Does anyone have any ideas on how to accomplish this? Or can you recommend a tasty newspaper?

Just chew on the paper. Sometimes we tend to over thing our problems. The script calls for him to rip out and chew on the front page. So do it. Newsprint and ink are not poisonous. When the actor complains about the taste, suggest he should suffer for his art.

Save the actual newspaper for the shows and use plain paper for rehearsals. When in character for the show they wont even be thinking about how it tastes. |

I have directed this show twice and believe me there is no problem with John eating the newspaper. The show requires precise timing and speed is of the essence!
