Topic: Sound of Music Nazi banners

Has anyone ever rented/borrowed the long red Nazi banners and flags for the Sound of Music's Kaltzberg festival? I am trying to determine if it is cheaper to rent them or make them. Thanks!

We made them... They got well used for several years as we loaned them out. Sadly, our flood from several years back took them with a great many other set pieces...

Thanks so much for your response. Do you know if they were made of fabric or painted canvas and about how much they cost to make? At first I assumed we would make them out of fabric until I read about the idea of the painted canvas which would make them more durable. Just trying to find our best option!

Sorry to hear about your flood...I am also trying to organize and inventory our costume/prop room and am seeking any helpful advice on that topic. Would welcome any! Thanks again. Barbra

I am in Marty's group. The flags were sewn together and magnificently scary. When they dropped out of the ceiling the whole audience gasped. The nice thing was they were held up with velco so when the scene was over the stage crew just grabbed them and yanked.

They were a "silky" fabric for the red, then black and white parts were sewn together and then added to the red flag. And yeah.. It was a cool effect

I haven't checked, but as I understand it you can buy Nazi flags from historical flag web sights, don't know if this would be cheapest but would probably look the best.
