Hi!
My theater's production of Moonlight & Magnolias is swiftly approaching and we need a large amount of fake banana peels. Certainly, real ones would do the trick, but the mess and expense are daunting. Does anyone have any fake banana peels on hand or know of a resource? Thanks! Cecily |

Probably too late but you could get some material, maybe even something like pleather (fake leather) and using a real peeled banana skin for a pattern, cut out strips of skin and then tie one end of them together with thread or brown duct tape and make sure to use some brown paint to age the skins a little. I think they should look pretty realistic and be far less messy.
What did you end up using?

Gelcat, it's a comedy about how David O. Selznick, Ben Hecht and Victor Fleming wrote the screenplay to "Gone With The Wind" while locked in a room for 5 days with nothing to eat but peanuts and bananas. My husband and I spent several hours hulling peanuts (and my thumbs STILL hurt!). :-)
Theatermama, that's exactly what I did on Sunday! I found some inexpensive vinyl and traced a real banana skin split into 3 sections. Then, I followed these steps: Cut out 40 of each of 3 strips Hot glued the pieces together at the "stem" Drew lines on the inside of each strip with a brown Sharpie Used masking tape to make stems Filled the top of the stems with hot glue to make a solid surface They weren't reading very banana-ish last night, so I spray painted them a more vivid yellow today and that did the trick. Tomorrow I get to do some aging (half of them are going to be pretty black) for our photo call. Woo-hoo! Edited by cestdiva - 8/11/10 at 3:41am |
