We're doing a production of The Mousetrap this fall, and would appreciate suggestions for the snow that is supposed to be falling outside the main windows.
Any other wisdom on stage snow would also be welcomed! thanks!

Snow Box mounted over the window - filled with one or a combination of the following:
Fake Christmas snow (this falls quickly and would probably need to be replenished between acts)
Shaved sytrofoam
instant mashed potato flakes
rice cereal
powder soap flakes
Place a sheet under the snow box to capture the fallen snow to make it easier to transport the snow back into the snow box each performance
Snow box is simply a four sided box open on top with a mesh wire bottom that allows the snow to fall
You suspend it above the window (be careful of sitelines) so it can be maneuvered freely.
It can be operated by a rocker arm attached to it that a stage hand can swing back and forth. If you have someone really handy they could maybe rig up an automated mechanism on a motor.
If not motorized, you can have it snow in key moments so that you don't have to have someone operating it the whole show.
I suppose you could also create a snow effect with lights that might be interesting.
It's a fun show -an audience pleaser - have a good time!
