I'm sure someone out there has cracked this one. We are looking for something to simulate cottage cheese since the actor playing Waldgrave, the costumers, and the theater board would all prefer we don't throw real cottage cheese all over the place.

That sounds just as messy as cottage cheese. (?)
sculpy, mashed and crumbled...or playdough. Sweep it up, doesn't stick, won't smell (?)

The TP doesn't stick at all and the only mess to costumes is a water spot. It costs next to nothing. For clean up you just pick it up (it usually stays on the costume for a couple seconds then falls off).
It really is quite nice. It has the color. It reads well because you have globs of it , not individual curds. It has the wet texture. And it plops nicely when you're hit. We used it as clam bisque that got thrown on a couple of actors.
Experiment with it. I think you'll like it. At worse you get to have a high school-like "soggy" fight.

I third the TP idea. It sounds the least messy of all the things I thought of. :)

This looks affordable
http://www.incredibleinedibles.shoppingcartsplus.com/catalog/item/1270186/744888.htm Otherwise I imagine some concoction could be created with enough gelatin and flour to be the right consistency. A room mate of mine once made pancakes with too much flour. Honestly we went outside and played frisbee with the pancakes. They were quite durable. |

This is probably too late, but we used ceiling patch. The kind they use for popcorn ceilings. It looks just like cottage cheese. We used two overcoats. Covered one with the "cottage cheese". The ceiling patch dried nicely, looked great and held up for the whole show. I wasn't washing overcoats everynight either. |
