I need 2 swords for a sword fighting scene...I have asked about this before...but I need to ask another question. I ordered 2 swords from edgeimports. They came wednesday and are completely different from the picture online. I am pretty annoyed. Nonetheless...I still need 2 swords. I want "fencing swords"...small, light...real is ok and preferred...I want the sound effects of real swords. Can anyone out there help me find what I am looking for?? The time period would 1600's. Does anyone know of a good website?? I have looked and looked and looked...and I am getting ready to just cut the whole scene out of the show...which I really don't want to do cause we have worked on it and put a lot of time into it. HELP!!

Hi Squeegle...
We finished up a run of Cyrano De Begerac last year, and with our kids did a rendition of Three Musketeers this year...and made our own swords. We bought a huge container of old golf clubs from our local Salvation army, the metal ones of course, snipped off the head of the club, and unwrapped the rubber around the handle. We bent everything we could find to make the hand guard, we found that old soup ladles worked te best, and sautered them onto the bottom of the swords. They looked amazing!! They gave the metal clang of swords, and were rounded on the ends so that no one got hurt. I was skepticle at first about their lack of an "authentic look" but after watching our sword-trained actors use them, they looked awesome!!!!!! I have attached a video link, within this you can see some of the swordplay. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MLGf7-dz54 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPyVruJ_Ef0 |

Try these - same ones as what we used for Moon Over Buffalo - cheapest still isn't cheap.
These have that typical metal sound associated with the sport because...well they ARE real epees, not toys, blunted tips usually for sport so no harm. I mean you CAN whack somebody's fingers but that's minor compared with being skewered for real.
There are others on that site too of different kinds and prices.

Here's a fancy pair on E-Bay - $30.00 bucks for a PAIR right now - 4 hours to go..
A set of 6 fencing swords ends tomorrow for $80 bucks right now....

You might want to try fencing "foils" rather than fencing "swords". You might get better hits for what you're looking for.
