Hello, we are doing Crazy for You and my choreographer has asked for pick axes that a guy can hold while a girl stands on the axe and swings back and forth. Does anyone have any idea of how to make this prop or do we go with the real thing? The reals seem so heavy.

If a girl is standing on it and swinging back and forth, suspended by one guy holding the handle of the pick axe, it IS going to be heavy. Even a small girl will be around 100 pounds. What's another 10-15 pounds, using a real pick axe? Unless I am completely missing the intentions here, I think your choreographer lives with body builders or in the land of TRUE make believe. Now if she is only ROCKING back and forth, with the pick axe on the stage floor, that's a whole 'nother story. Either way, a real pick axe is the best way to support the weight of the actress and the weight of the pick axe is minimal considering the added weight of the actress. Good luck with whatever you do.

Choreography with pick-axes?
Better have your dancers sign waivers. Otherwise you're setting yourself up for potential litigation if somebody gets injured. |
