What type of mic inputs are available at your stage location. Do you use an audio snake with a breakout box, or permanent floorboxes or a combination of both? What have you found to be the best combination that allows the most flexibility? We will be reconfiguring our theater sound system soon. thanks Sledge

I prefer 'dip traps' as a set in multi function 'Stage Box', that include mic input, lighting patch outlets & non dim power outlets [GPO]. cut into the deck.
Our newly refurbished venue has only a Multicore audio patch panel backstage on the PS, wich is fed from the bio [ashtray] box.
The architect was asked to install a lighting multicore, instead he had put in a 40 pair cable audio patch panel?
Needless to say I now have now to install a 120 lighting patch panel, to feed 4 lighting truss bars, of 20 patch circuits each & dip traps.
The best I have seen & worked with, the trap run the full out line of the stage area, with lift panels, as well as drip traps in the performance area.

Thanks for the response, JoeMc. I come from a pro audio type background and I'm familiar with multi-input floor boxes, but had never heard of a dip trap (more of a theater thing, I guess?). I'll see if I can find out more through web research. I appreciate the tip and may need to bug you further at some point for details.

Ah yes ... We call them floor-boxes here in the states. This is a typical example of what I have used in the past from Mystery Electronics.
http://www.mysteryelectronics.com/ This theater space was "designed to fail" and there is no under-platform access. I suppose we would have to rip the platform floor up to install these receptacles. Might fly as a future project (budget and time allowing). Right now we will likely have to go with a snake/stage box combination (and lots of long mic cables) to get by for a while. One step at a time... Thanks again for your generous assistance Joe. Much appreciated. Mark |
