I am thinking about using a laptop instead of a cd player for our sound cues and program music. Also will be using it for recording some cues and sound fx. Any suggestions on hardware/software? We have a decent eight channel Behringer board so I can take analog sources and encode them on the pc.

For playing sound cues I would recommend: http://www.soundcuesystem.com/ We use this at my theater and it works great. For sound editing I use Sound Forge (http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/), good all around sound editing program. Dan |

The program lacks a sufficient trial time to make it a resonable purchase - Even SFX allowed me to preview in rep a full set of shows before committing.
This program - Soundcue system looks interesting - but I suggest you pass on it for one of the more commonly accepted and supported programs.

There is a long thread on the Sound Cue System on the AACT bulletin board. I bought it and have used it and like it a lot. Doug |

I'll modify my earlier post and add that I have now used Sound Cue on a production with very good results. There are just a few quirks (such as when editing - after having changed out certain cues) but all-in-all it is a very good program.
I can recommend this. |

An update;
I used SCS for a 120 cue show at THe Western Stage.
It performed perfectly. Even more importantly, the training curve for operators is very short.

May I offer an alternative - Cue Player. There are two versions, a free and 'pro' with more features such as sound-on-sound, reverb, and an equalizer. They may be found at http://www.baxeldata.com
