bullet Topic: Drama Camp Production -- Help!
    Posted: 3/11/04 at 5:45pm

Hello!

I am going to be teaching a two-week drama day camp this summer, and I am trying to find a fairly easy end-of-camp production. The ages will be somewhere in the area of 3rd - 8th grades, give or take a grade, and we will have 3 hours of rehearsal time per day, Monday - Friday for two weeks (with, perhaps, some extra rehearsal time the last few days, but not sure about this). I have no idea how many campers I will have, but I probably won't have over 20 (probably more like 15). I am looking for a play that ideally would have the following:

-Somewhat evenly distributed lines (not where one camper says something every other line, and another student has one line), as much as possible, at least.

-Can accomodate 20 cast members or less.

-Does not require lots of sets, props or costumes! I can go for some, but very limited.

-Can be learned in two weeks!

All suggestions will be appreciated!!

Thanks -- Holly

Have you looked Paul Sills' Story Theater & More From Story Theater? They are carried by Samuel French. I love these for large groups, young casts, limited set & props. It can be as much, or as you little as you want. They are collections of fractured fairy tales. They should be pretty easy to learn in two weeks, and since there are a number of different stories you can spread out the lines. The kids like it, and it is easy to rehearse in large groups or small groups.

Good Luck.

In general I would suggest just going through the Samuel French catalogue (I think you can access it online) and look at their one act productions.  They have several productions that are designed for your particular scenario.
