We are a small group doing mostly readers theater but some simple productions in 30 seat venues. The royalties are killing us. A few people have told me that you can negotiate with the major publishing houses for lower royalties but I haven't had any luck. Is it possible to get lower royalties?
I like Broadway Play Publishers - their royalties are calculated on max potential gross. Are there any other major publishers that do this? A lot of the low cost stuff is unpublished and rightfully so. We have also looked at the public domain material. Any other suggestions? Thanks!! |

I directed "Spoon River Anthology" last fall and rights through Samuel French were $50.00 first performance and $35.00 for each additional. That's pretty cheap. It was a great play (we did it with music but you don't have to) and it's all monologues which would offer great variety for you. Good Luck!

Thanks for the info - we also did it last summer - it was one of our more popular shows.
