We are looking for a vintage refrigerator for a low budget production in the San Francisco Bay Area. Any ideas how to find such an item?
Alternatively, does anyone have a plan for constructing a refrigerator with a door that can be opened in one scene of the play?
Thanks,
Dennis

Check out http://sfbay.craigslist.org/ Do a search in the "For Sale" section and you may wind up with something that's free for pickup or very inexpensive.

We did over the tavern last year and were able to borrow a vintage stove and fridge from our local historical society... just a thought... (but hopefully you wont get a an old gas powered fridge like we did... it weighed almost 500 lbs and was a bear to get on stage)

We needed one of those vintage fridges with the fans on top for an early dated show and I found a round humidifier that looked the part at the resale place. We spraypainted it and stuck it on top of a small reg fridge and it looked fabulous.

Just an FYI we have used an old fridge door on several sets. We have screwed it right into the wall and it looks like a built in unit piece. we also used it as a secret passage for props crew to restock the kitchen between scenes. Open the door and out walks a techie.

Now if only you could find a way to store the actors inside, it might help keep the performances fresh.
