Hello directors and producers!
I sell new and used cheerleading uniforms, and I have been contacted by many high school drama representatives who are searching for cheerleading costumes for the play "A High School Musical". Due to the tremendous (and rising) demand for uniforms in red & white and in blue & white, finding used uniforms in size and quantity mixes needed is increasingly difficult.
I have been asked about, and I am looking into, the possibility of purchasing uniforms to rent out for this.
So, here is my question to all of you........Would your production consider renting uniforms rather than buying them? If so, how long of a period would you want to rent them for, and what would you consider a fair rent for that period of time (either per uniform, or as a package of 6-8 red and 6-8 blue sets)? Should I consider a package mix other than 6-8 red & 6-8 blue uniform sets? What about the basketball uniforms?
I would need to assure a timely return of clean uniforms in essentially the same condition as when rented, so what would you consider to be a fair security deposit, and how much $ daily late penalty would motivate you to be sure to return them on time? Would an early return credit motivate you to return them even before they are due back?
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOU INPUT! Please contact me if you are looking for uniforms for this play. Please specify your scheduled performance dates when contacting me.
In service,
Lorraine Butler

i've never rented before, but i did hear one horror story involving a local high school that rented costumes, under the impression they were going to be paying a certian amount, and it ended up being hundreds of dollars more than they had originally been told... it all wound up very badly, so i would say just be VERY clear about the price upfront
also, make sure your charging enough that you can pay for dry-cleaning between rentals, plus paying off the original price of the costumes, and making a profit, but dont charge so much that local CT adn high school groups can't afford it. as far as numbers go, i dont know what to reccomend.. maybe ask some of your local CTs how much they usually pay for rented costumes and if they dont rent, ask how much they would be willing to pay
hope that helped
