bullet Topic: large diamond necklace
    Posted: 4/04/07 at 8:39am
Hi, everyone,

I'm producing Play On!, for which I need a prop necklace - the "Delhi Diamond."  I've looked online at several sources, but can't seem to find what I'm looking for - a large "diamond" at the center of an ornate necklace.  Everything I've found has color to it or features a large "pearl."

Does anyone have any ideas for places I could look for this prop?  Or should I buy a ring (I saw several large "diamond" rings) and convert it to a necklace?

Thanks so much!
Melissa

Not sure how large you are looking for, but you could try www.orientaltrading.com

They have a wide variety of things you could possibly use to make your own necklace.  I see a 42mm clear/opaque gemstone listed with their beading/craft supplies.  I'm a bit rusty on my metric to american conversions, but 42mm sounds pretty big.

Or try your local hobby store:  Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc

Good Luck.

Go to your local Toys R Us, and look at the childrens dress up jewelry. You may find a princess necklace, tiara, or crown with a large plastic jewel that may work

Depending on how large and how comical you want the diamond to be, you could always find a crystal doorknob at a hardware store or antique store for about $5.00 - $10.00.

And as a side note:  our props mistress once made a fabulous diamond ring by using hot-melt glue to attach a cluster of chandelier crystals to a simple band.  From the stage it read quite impressively.
