The Manhattan Theatre Source is putting on a FREE Summer Workshop for ages 11-18 called Junior Genius!

Auditions for the workshop begin July 5 and will run until July 9. Rehearsals will be in July and the performances will take place August 9 - 14.

We are also seeking writers, directors, and design teams. Submit your work to the previously mentioned e-mail address if interested.

In addition to the shows there will be free workshops in directing, improv, puppetry and writing.

Wheaton Drama Announces Auditions For Musical Comedy

 
Wheaton Drama, Inc. (WDI) announces auditions for its 2010-2011 season opener, “The. D.C.” (We are contractually prohibited from advertising the full title until an extremely similar show closes in Lincolnshire, IL.)
 
Book, Music and Lyrics by well-regarded Canadian people.
 
Craig Gustafson is directing, assisted by Toria Hollyn. Genevieve Pastore is the production manager. Sue Kinney-Watschke is the musical director and Tracy Adams is the choreographer.

 

Auditions are at 7pm on Sunday, July 18 and Monday, July 19 at Playhouse 111, 111 N. Hale Street in downtown Wheaton.

 

In order to best utilize the time of actors auditioning for “The D.C.”, auditions are by appointment only. The process is as follows: 

 

1. Actors will be scheduled for either Sunday, July 18 or Monday, July 19 (actor choice, unless a date is full).

2. Actors will be assigned a call time, either 7, 8 or 9pm.

3. Actors will be assigned to a group and will spend 20 minutes in the dance audition, 20 minutes in the singing audition and 20 minutes in the reading audition. Everyone who attends will get to read.

4. Those cast or called back will be called by noon on Tuesday.  Actors who are not cast or called back will be contacted by e-mail.  Callbacks (or further auditions, if needed) will be on Wednesday, July 21.

5. Walk-ins might be seen on Sunday and Monday beginning at 10pm, depending on how busy auditions are, so having an appointment is advised.


To schedule an appointment: BEGINNING SUNDAY, JULY 4 (and not before), please email WDIDrowsy@comcast.net. Please state your name and which day you would like to audition. Attaching a headshot and resume is acceptable but not required. Details on what you will need to sing and read will be provided when your appointment is scheduled.

 

Performances of “The D.C.” are September 17 through October 10, 2010. Shows are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets are $21 each, except Thursdays, which have a special price of $18 per ticket.

St. Mark Theatre Ministry present's "The Pajama Game".  A musical comedy about the dangers of a workplace romance are explored to hysterical effect in this romantic comedy from the creators of “Damn Yankees.” Conditions at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory are anything but peaceful, as sparks fly between new superintendent Sid Sorokin and Babe Williams, leader of the union grievance committee. Their stormy relationship comes to a head when the workers strike for a 7½-cent pay increase, setting off not only a conflict between management and labor, but a battle of the sexes as well.

Up & Coming Theatre Company produces theatre production of “HAIRSPRAY”

July 7, 2010 – Up & Coming Theatre Company (UAC) proudly premieres their production of “HAIRSPRAY,” written by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, with music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman. UAC Theatre’s production will be directed and choreographed by Jennifer Cupani, with Music Direction by Niall Casserly.

“HAIRSPRAY” is based off the 1988 John Walters film by the same name. Taking place in 1960’s Baltimore, the musical follows Tracy Turnblad, a “pleasantly plump” teenager who dreams of dancing on “The Corny Collins Show.” When she finally gets her chance, controversy ensues as she charms the resident heartthrob Link Larkin and attempts to integrate the show, all while singing and dancing and not messing up her hair.

UAC Theatre features a unique mentoring process in preparing for their performances. UAC casts both amateur and professional actors, giving performers at all levels the opportunity to work side by side with veterans of the theater community. David Geinosky, who received his performance training at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NY, is one such actor who has traveled all over the world to perform. “It was an amazing experience and I am thrilled to be home with my friends and family. It’s great to be home surrounded by something so familiar that so many people love, community theater and HAIRSPRAY.” Also cast is Equity recognized choreographer Annie Jo Fischer. UAC prides itself with giving audiences a chance to see tomorrow’s stars today.

UAC Theatre’s mission is to provide professional level performances with equal regard to music, voice, dancing, and acting. UAC prides itself in raising the bar on what community theatre is typically in terms of output, but still retains the communal aspects in terms of input by giving opportunities for aspiring professionals to obtain practical experience, grow as people, and expand their artistry. UAC provides challenges to these artists through teamwork, cooperation, and constant support and encouragement.

UAC is also a proud member of the American Association for Community Theatre as well as Illinois Theatre Association, and are recipients of ITA’s 2009 Award of Excellence, Community Theatre Division

Show dates for “HAIRSPRAY” are August 6-8 and 12-15. Show times on Thursday – Saturday performances will be at 7:30 pm, and Sunday matinees will be at 2:30 pm. Wheaton Drama, Inc. (WDI) is presenting A.R. Gurney’s comedy, Sylvia.

 

When empty-nester Greg adopts stray dog Sylvia, her antics and his fondness for her threaten to disrupt his marriage.

 

Energetic, comic and fresh, Sylvia is an entertaining romp for dog and theatre lovers alike. The New York Daily News described the show as “…one of the most involving, beautiful, funny, touching and profound plays I have ever seen…”.

  

Wheaton Drama’s Sylvia cast is: Mike Boyna as Greg; Jennifer Ciombor as Sylvia; Joan Morrissey as Kate; Vince Scalone as Tom, Leslie and Phyllis.

 

Penny Salvesen is directing. Jackie Haiser is the producer and stage manager.

  

Performances of Sylvia are July 9 through July 18, 2010. Shows are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets are $10 each. Seating is general admission. Sylvia is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.
